“What are you doing? What are you guys doing?” She cried.

Charles and Kayeto quickly pulled apart. Charles began to adjust his trousers while Kayeto pushed a stray breast into the cup of her bra.

“How could you? I warned you…I told you to stay away…” Kambili cried.

“Don’t cause a scene…” Charles said.

“Don’t cause a scene? Is that what you’re thinking of? The fact that I could cause a scene?” Kambili yelled at him.

Kayeto looked at Kambili and looked away.

“You! You have sworn that I’d never be happy. Right from childhood…you have never looked away from my things…you always hunger for them. Is that what Charles is to you? One of my properties that you can seize?” She cried.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about…I told you earlier that Charles loves me.” Kayeto said meekly.

Kambili was angry, Kayeto always switched to kitten mode whenever she wanted to play the injured party.

“Stop the pretence! Open your mouth and yell back at me! You’re so fake…and no one sees this side of you but me! I see this side of you because I know you…we are sisters and I have lived with you all my life. I know you so well and I know that you hate me and want to be me. You’ve tried all you could to take my spot in the family but you couldn’t so, you want to take everything I have from me.” She screamed.

Kayeto stood up and walked towards the door but Kambili dragged her by her dress.

“Kambili…stop this…please stop this.” Charles said.

“Do you see what I’ve been talking about? Do you see the way she treats me?” Kayeto said to Charles with tears in her eyes.

“What are you talking about? You’re screwing my husband and all of a sudden you’re the injured party!” Kambili fired at her.

“Kambili…let go of her.” Charles shouted.

“No!” Kambili retorted.

Charles walked up to them and forcefully removed Kayeto’s dress from Kambili’s grasp. Kayeto quickly hurried away and slammed the door behind her.

“How could you?” Kambili asked with tears in her eyes. “How could you do this to us? Today is our wedding day. What if someone had seen the two of you here in this room together?”

“Do you want to know the truth?” He’d asked.

“What truth?” Kambili asked in tears.

“I don’t love you anymore and if I had told you at the beginning that I did, it was a mistake on my part.” He said and left the dressing room.

Kambili crouched to the ground in tears.
